5 Things We Can Learn from Children

Children are more valuable to us than we realise.
Not only can does their energy and passion for life invite a involuntary happiness among us, they also hold a lot of wisdom in their few years; there is a lot that we can learn from children.
As a child or young person, we are always in a rush to be older; always in a rush to be an adult; always in a rush to grow up. But we could all do with taking a step back and realising the wonderful and important traits that being a child or young person has to offer.

5 things we can learn from children

When a baby is learning to walk, not once does it think “this is not for me, I’ll just give up and crawl for the rest of my life.” And not just for walking either; learning to talk, learning to read and write… it is an ongoing push of determination that allows a child to do these things - this is the resilience we all need. Take this attitude and put it into your own life and career, and you will achieve much more than you think you can.

Whether it be through going up to someone new and saying hello, or through trying something new, our confidence as children is the highest that it can ever be. Children aren’t afraid of failure as they treat each experience as something new. We can’t be afraid of something we know nothing about, so how will we know that we aren’t able compatible to a new career path or a promotion if we don’t try?

Don’t be afraid to dream big! Ask a child what they want to be when they grow up and they will tell you without hesitation. They don’t think about the hinderances or hurdles that may happen, they just think about what they want to be. You can do this too; think about what you want to be and there will be a way to get you there.

If you have any children in your life, you will know that they love without fear. Their pets are their best friends, their parents are their idols and they will watch their favourite movie 6 times in a row without hesitation. Now, we’re not telling you to waste your time watching Frozen on repeat (unless that’s what you want, then go for it!), but have passion for something and enjoy it.

Not to worry about other opinions

Ever asked a child to dress themselves? They would happily put on a tutu with wellington boots and a fireman’s hat if you gave them the opportunity. That’s because it’s what they want to wear and they don’t care about what others think. Wear what you want, do what you want, and be who you want to be. Don’t let the fear of judgement or opposing opinions stop you from living your dreams.
Bring out your inner child and become the courageous, life-loving and successful person that we all can be. As adults, there is so much we can learn from children.
