“If you feel like you want to study, don’t hesitate to just do it. Time moves so quickly and the benefits of starting a new career could be huge!”
Jon, 52, Winchester
A retired police officer looking for his next challenge and to embark on a new career, Jon, is currently studying a Level 2 Bookkeeping Course via distance learning with Open Study College.
Talking about his decision to study again during his retirement after working for the police for more than 30 years, Jon said:
“I retired a couple of years ago and soon realised that I wanted to do something to prevent myself from feeling bored at home. I thought about a complete change in career and considered bookkeeping, as I knew that I wanted to work from home given the current climate.
“I’m half-way through my course with Open Study College and find that the complete flexibility of studying through OSC is helpful. I’m really motivated to study and do so when it suits me.”
When he’s not studying Jon loves magic tricks and playing the guitar. He was even a member of the Magic Club in Southampton. While exploring any challenges Jon has faced fitting his studies in around his life and hobbies thus far he explained that this route of learning suits him well and encourages others to take the leap too:
“I haven’t experienced any challenges with remote learning. What’s challenging is picking up a completely different subject, not so much the distance learning aspect. Open Study College provides a dedicated online tutor that I can contact with queries or for support at any time; so far it’s all going smoothly. I’d certainly consider doing another remote learning course with OSC – I’d study the same subject, but at a higher level.
“If I had any advice to offer someone considering studying with Open Study College, I’d say that if you feel like you want to study, don’t hesitate to just do it. Time moves so quickly and the benefits of starting a new career could be huge!”
