Course Duration

You have 2 years to complete both courses. Either study each one individually, or both simultaneously – the flexibility and choice is yours!

Course Outcome

On completion of this distance learning course and relevant examinations, you will be awarded the Exdecel Functional Skills Qualification in English Level 2 and the Edexcel Functional Skills Qualification in Maths Level 2. If you only complete one of the two courses, you’ll only receive the qualification which corresponds with that course

Assessment

Each course will be assessed individually. Assignments should be sent to your personal tutor for grading. Examinations will be booked and taken separately. If you add on your exams, we will book these for you. Please note: exams are held in Birmingham, Coventry, Bolton, Doncaster, Wimbledon, Taunton and St Neots, so you must be able to travel to one of these locations.

English Paper 3: Writing

  • Type: Onscreen assessment or paper-based
  • Duration: 60 minutes
  • Weighting: 33.3%
  • Total marks: 30
  • Assessment format: Students will complete two writing tasks.

Maths: Paper 1

The exam consists of 1 paper which has 2 sections:

Non-calculator

  • Duration: 25 minutes
  • Weighting: 25%
  • Marks: 16 in total
  • Assessment format: onscreen or paper-based assessment

Calculator

  • Duration: 1 hour 30 minutes
  • Weighting: 75%
  • Marks: 48 in total
  • Assessment format: onscreen or paper-based assessment
