This Active IQ Level 2 Certificate provides an excellent knowledge base for gym instruction and students will achieve a nationally recognised qualification in gym instruction. This course is suitable for beginners and have no prior qualifications in fitness training.

Extra information

You must be 16 or over to enrol on this course. It is also highly recommended that learners possess a degree of physical fitness and have experience of gym-based exercises, including free weights

Once you have enrolled, a member of our team will reach out to request your Unique Learner Number (ULN) in order to register you with the awarding body. The ULN is a 10-digit number that is already assigned to you and links to your personal learner record. You can find it on any previous certificates or results slips.

This course is assessed by a variety of methods, including a multiple-choice examination, practical assessment, video assessment and coursework.

Video assessment

You will complete two assessments via video submission on:

  • Client interview
  • Group induction

Multiple-choice examination

Your multiple-choice exam will be completed online at home after you have completed all theory work (including video assessments) and prior to your practical assessment, therefore access to a PC will be required.

Exam title and code: Principles of anatomy, physiology, and fitness level 2 (A/616/7499)

There are 50 questions within this paper. To achieve a pass, you will need to score 35 out of 50 marks.

Practical day

Once you have passed al theory units and assessments, you will be able to book on for your practical assessment. The practical sessions are run throughout the year and will take place at a venue in Birmingham. You must make sure you are able to travel to Birmingham in order to attend your practical assessment. Available dates will be subject to a waiting list.

On your assessment day, you will be assessed on:

  • 1-2-1 programme delivery

You will have up to one year to complete your course, but you can study in as much or as little time as you like. The only time limit will be the practical assessment day as you will need to ensure all your theory work is complete before you book on to this.

The theory side of the course requires around 230 hours of study time.

You will study this course online, which will enable you to learn when and where you want, as long as you have access to an internet connection you are able to study.

You will receive access to an online learning platform including a variety of visual, audio and text-based presentations. You will also have a personal tutor to support you through your course, so help is only a click away!

Once you have passed your theory and practical elements to your course, you will receive your Active IQ Level 2 Certificate in Gym Instructing qualification. This is fully recognised by CIMSPA.

This qualification enables you to become a fully qualified Gym instructor.

Students must be 16 or over to enrol on this course and a degree of physical fitness is necessary to complete the practical assessments. It is also recommended that you have some experience of gym-based exercise, including free weights, and basic level communication skills.
